💔 NEVER LET GO — Episode Twelve: “His Anger, Her Softness”
Saturday arrived quietly, slipping into the mansion with a calmness that belied everything waiting to unfold. Everyone settled around the breakfast table as usual, yet the atmosphere felt different. Ivy kept her eyes lowered until she sensed Stanley looking at her very affectionately.
At first, she felt shy, looking away with a blush. When she looked up at him again and noticed he was still staring at her like a man seeing the one thing he never thought he deserved, she allowed herself to look back, her heart warming each time their gazes met. Only Nkechi and Bianca understood the subtle sparks forming between them. They watched with quiet smiles, already convinced that the chemistry was no longer imaginary.
After breakfast, Stanley’s voice dipped into a tender warmth as he asked Ivy to get dressed, admitting he wanted to spend the day alone with her, just the two of them. Ivy became shy instantly, but Nkechi nudged her with her eyes and silently urged her not to lose such a golden moment. Ivy eventually dressed in one of her best outfits and joined Stanley outside. He was already in the car, waiting for her as though every second mattered.
He drove her to the beach where they sat under a quiet shade, a bit removed from the main stretch of sand. Ivy felt nervous, unable to hide the discomfort she felt whenever she remembered the difference between their worlds. Stanley noticed the hesitation in her posture, so he began telling her humorous stories until her shoulders loosened and she laughed without reserve. Slowly, the tension left her body.
After some time, Ivy grew bold enough to lie gently on his chest as they lay on the palms they had spread on the ground. The ocean breeze brushed against them while the silence drew them closer.
“Ivy,” Stanley began softly, staring at her with a warmth she was not used to. “I have never felt this way about any woman. All my life, I lived carelessly and treated women without respect. But you showed me what it truly means to be a responsible man. Thank you.”
Ivy raised her head slightly, her voice trembling. “I never imagined someone like you would ever choose an orphan like me. You have done so much for me, and I am grateful.”
Stanley held her face. “I want to make you smile for the rest of your life. I love you, Ivy. I can no longer hide it. I cannot go long without looking into your beautiful eyes. I really love you.”
Her tears came before she even realized they had gathered. Stanley panicked and wiped them quickly.
“Did I say something wrong? Do you not love me too?”
“I do love you,” she replied with emotion shaking her voice. “I am overwhelmed. I was an orphan who barely lived as a human being. You took me out of that life and transformed everything instantly. I do not even know how to express what I feel.”
Before she could continue, Stanley touched her lips gently.
“Do not explain anything. I do not care about your past. You are my queen now, and I love you.”
He kissed her slowly, and she returned the kiss with equal passion. They kissed several times and held each other with a depth that neither had expected. Afterward, Stanley took her to a boutique where they selected many elegant dresses to replace the ones stolen during the robbery.
In the middle of choosing outfits, Stanley’s phone rang. As soon as he answered, his expression changed completely. Anger rose sharply in him.
“Ivy, we need to leave. My mother has upset me again,” he said, barely containing his frustration.
“Did something happen?” she asked, worried by his tone.
“Let us go. We will continue the shopping another time,” he replied firmly, walking ahead while Ivy followed quietly.
When they arrived home, Stanley began calling out for his mother with a voice filled with agitation. Mrs Grace came out looking confused, while Bianca and Nkechi watched uneasily.
“What is the matter, my son?” she asked.
“Samson just told me you signed a contract with another company. Their CEO was caught for cocaine and charged. How could you go into business with someone like that?” Stanley shouted.
“Calm down, Stanley,” Mrs Grace said, trying to steady her voice. “That man must have changed after he left prison. Your father also approved the contract. I had no choice because his decision is always final. We need new partners to strengthen our influence. You should try to understand…”
“Understand what exactly?” Stanley snapped.
“You have not managed the company in a long time. You do not know the level of risk you have placed us in. You have put everything we built in danger. What kind of temptation are you to us?”
“Stanley, I am still your mother, and you must show respect. You have no right to address me like this,” she said, her voice quivering.
“Respect does not erase the damage you have done. You have no idea what this decision could cost us. You do not understand anything…”
“Stan, stop it. Stop it right now!” Ivy’s voice rang out, calm yet fierce, cutting straight through his rage.
The entire room became as quiet as a graveyard. Everyone stared at Ivy, stunned by her courage.
Stanley turned sharply toward her. His eyes widened. His breath caught in his throat. No one in this house had ever dared raise a voice at him when he was in such a state. But Ivy was not just anyone. She was the only person who could touch the core of him effortlessly.
Ivy walked toward him slowly, each step graceful and steady, as though she was crossing into the fire just to pull him out. Her hands trembled slightly, but her face remained composed. She reached him and held his hands with a gentleness that immediately disarmed him. The moment her fingers touched his skin, something melted inside him. His breathing softened. His shoulders dropped. His heartbeat quickened for an entirely different reason now.
Ivy lifted her face to him and locked her eyes with his.
“Stan, apologise to her,” she whispered, her tone both soft and firm. “She is your mother. She is our mother.”
Her words slipped into him like a spell. He stared at her, confused by how quickly she had silenced the storm raging inside him. The whole room watched in awe as the once unshakable Stanley became completely still in front of her.
Mrs Grace covered her face and wept quietly. Nkechi and Bianca rushed to comfort her, but even they could not take their eyes off Ivy. They had never seen anyone control their brother with such tenderness and power.
“But Ivy,” Stanley said, his voice low and conflicted. “She has caused a serious problem. How do I apologise for something this heavy?”
“I know,” Ivy replied gently, her fingers brushing the back of his hand. “But I am begging you as the girl you say you love. Please apologise to her.”
Stanley stood there trapped between pride and love. Ivy’s eyes began to glisten again, and her gentle plea weakened him completely. His love for her overpowered every ounce of pride he had.
He exhaled deeply, defeated only by her. “I am sorry, mother. Forgive me for being rude.”
Everyone stared in shock. Mrs Grace gasped softly. Nkechi covered her mouth. Bianca blinked rapidly. None of them could believe what they had just witnessed.
Stanley pulled his hand from Ivy’s grip too quickly. He turned and walked to his room with stiff shoulders, trying to reclaim the last bits of his pride.
Ivy turned immediately to Mrs Grace and approached her with warmth. “Please, mother, forgive him,” she said softly, kneeling a little as she held her hand. “He will change with time.”
Mrs Grace’s tears softened into a smile. She cupped Ivy’s cheek and whispered, “Come to me, my dear.”
Ivy leaned into her embrace, and Mrs Grace held her tightly as if she had already accepted her as a daughter. Nkechi and Bianca hurried over, hugging Ivy from behind, praising her for calming their brother and restoring peace to the house.
The rest of the day drifted into quietness, gentler than it had started, with Ivy unknowingly becoming the heart of the mansion.
The following week, Ivy received a strange call from a woman she did not know. The woman claimed she knew where Ivy could find her biological parents. She sounded confident and disturbingly certain. Ivy’s heart raced as she asked for more details, but the woman told her to come to a specific location alone.
The woman warned Ivy not to tell anyone about their meeting and not to come in a car or with anyone else.
When Ivy asked why, the woman said she could be traced and harmed if she revealed the truth.
Curiosity and fear fought inside Ivy’s chest. She tried to remain calm, but the desire to know the truth about her origins grew too strong to ignore.
She promised the woman she would come.
And the line went dead.
