EPISODE 1 — THE GIRL WHO WASN’T A BOY

Campus Romance • Drama • Mystery • Forbidden Feelings

Chioma pushed her suitcase into Room 209 expecting a normal campus roommate — maybe a quiet girl who minded her business. What she didn’t expect was someone sitting on the top bunk looking exactly like a boy.

Tall.
Slim.
Grey joggers, oversized hoodie.
Low-cut hair faded neatly on the sides.
No earrings, no makeup, no girly vibe at all.

For a second, Chioma froze at the door.

“Um… sorry, this is the girls’ hostel. I think you’re in the wrong—”

The “boy” looked up, removed one AirPod, and said in a cool, low voice:

“I’m not in the wrong room. I’m your roommate.”

Chioma blinked.
“You’re a… girl?”

A small smirk tugged at the tomboy’s lips.
“The last time I checked, yes.”

She jumped down from the bunk, hands in her pockets, stance and swagger like a full-grown guy.
Her name was Zara, and the entire campus knew her — the girl who always dressed like a boy, moved like a boy, talked like a boy… and somehow still turned heads anywhere she went.

Chioma dragged her luggage inside slowly, still confused.

Zara helped her lift her box with one hand like it was nothing.
“You’re new here, yeah? Don’t mind the way I look. I just prefer comfort.”

Chioma laughed nervously.
“Comfort? You look like you’re about to join a football team.”

Zara shrugged.
“If I wanted to, I’d be captain.”

Chioma liked her instantly — she was funny, warm in a quiet way, and extremely confident without trying.

But before their conversation could continue, someone burst into the room.

The door flung open.
In walked a girl with loud lashes, loud perfume, and even louder attitude.

“Zara!” she shouted. “You didn’t tell me you have a new roommate!”

Zara rubbed her forehead. “Tari, calm down.”

Tari scoffed.
“Calm? How? We have to change this room. You can’t just be sharing space with anybody—”

She stopped talking when her eyes landed on Chioma.

“Oh. You’re the new girl.”

Chioma nodded politely.
“Yes. I’m Chi—”

Tari raised a brow. “Hmm. I hope you’re not one of those girls that fall for Zara. Half this hostel already behaves like she’s some fine boy.”

Zara groaned. “Tari, abeg.”

Chioma laughed awkwardly, suddenly aware of Zara’s eyes quietly studying her reaction.

Tari rolled her eyes, tossed her braids dramatically, and walked out.

Silence settled again.
Zara sighed deeply.

“She’s not my girlfriend, if that’s what you’re thinking.”

Chioma shrugged.
“I didn’t ask.”

“You’re thinking it.”

Chioma chuckled softly, but she couldn’t deny it — there was something mysterious and magnetic about Zara. Something that made you curious without trying.

As Chioma began unpacking, she noticed Zara watching her again — not in a creepy way, but like she was trying to understand the new girl.

Then Zara leaned against the bunk and asked quietly:

“So, Chioma… do you have any secrets?”

Chioma lifted her head.
“Why would you ask that?”

Zara smirked.
“Because everyone in Room 209 eventually does.”

Chioma didn’t know whether she should laugh or worry.

But one thing was sure — her new roommate wasn’t ordinary.
And this semester was about to be everything but normal.

To be continued. ..
By unwana's tips.
