Da Brat and Jesseca Harris-Dupart Open Up About IVF Journey, Death Threats, and Miscarry Suggestions

Da Brat and Jesseca In a candid conversation with People magazine, rapper Da Brat and her wife, Jesseca 'Judy' Harris-Dupart, shared the highs and lows of their in vitro fertilization (IVF) journey. The couple welcomed their two-year-old son, True Legend, in 2023, but their path to parenthood was not without its challenges.

Da Brat and Harris-Dupart Received Death Threats During IVF Process
The couple revealed that they received death threats for using a white sperm donor for their child. They also faced suggestions to miscarry, which came as a shock to them. Harris-Dupart explained that the threats were likely due to the fact that only three percent of donor sperm comes from Black men.

The Challenges of Finding a Suitable Donor
Da Brat and Harris-Dupart wanted a healthy child above all else. However, they faced difficulties in finding a suitable donor. They were screened for genetic health, but there were only a small number of donor options available to them. The couple eventually matched with a lone Black sperm donor, whom Da Brat jokingly referred to as 'Jiminy Cricket' on 'The Tamron Hall Show'.

A Difficult Miscarriage and the Joy of Parenthood
Before finally becoming pregnant, the couple suffered a difficult miscarriage. However, when baby True was born in 2023, Da Brat was overjoyed. She described her son as 'perfect' and said that it felt like a dream come true.

A Common Struggle for Many Couples
Da Brat and Harris-Dupart's story of IVF is not unique. A 2023 study by the American Society of Reproductive Medicine found that only about three percent of sperm donors at the nation's largest donor banks are Black. This highlights the challenges faced by many couples who want to be parents but cannot conceive naturally due to various factors.

Da Brat and Jesseca Harris-Dupart's journey to parenthood is a testament to the resilience of love and the human spirit. Despite facing numerous challenges, including death threats and miscarry suggestions, they remained committed to their goal of becoming parents. Their story serves as a reminder that IVF is not just a medical procedure but also a journey of hope and determination.
